The Influence of Quality

The Influence of Quality

Almost 20 years ago, the owner & President of BAW Plastics introduced his employees to an article about quality that remains valid over 40 years later. The article contained the 14 Points of Management that W. Edwards Deming published in his book, “Out of the Crisis,” in 1982. Deming received attention from Fortune 500 companies and more for his work during the 1900s and continues to influence the leaders of today. In summary, Deming focused on the following:

IMPROVEMENT

Deming’s was a believer that you should always remain focused on the improvement of products and/or services, which aims to keep your business competitive and thriving. Using quotas and targets can create tension, so instead focus on improving the system to reach goals. By constantly improving production systems, you will enhance quality, productivity, and reduce costs.

EMPLOYEES

Another focus was on quality.  When quality is at the forefront, it allows employees to take pride in their workmanship, no matter
what role they serve. Creating incentives is one way BAW Plastics focuses on quality and the pride of our employees today! Providing training and promoting education or forms of self-improvement for all employees will ensure your employees are knowledgeable, safe, and contribute to the business’s success.

LEADERSHIP

Demings next important aspect was leadership.  Leaders need to foster teamwork across all departments.  Teamwork can make or break a company when faced with production challenges. As a leader, it’s important to eliminate fear so everyone can work effectively and efficiently. No one should have to work in fear while they provide for themselves and/or their loved ones. Ensure everyone in the company is involved in the transformation process, whether it involves open communication, encouraging feedback, recognizing and rewarding contributions, etc. A good leader embraces change and economic realities and strives to always support and improve the work of people, machines, and systems.

BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS

We cherish our business partners!  While part of business is making money, it’s imperative to avoid making price-based business decisions, and instead favor long-term, loyal supplier relationships. Not only does this foster collaboration, but it also fosters consistency, quality control, cost savings in the long run, risk reduction, flexibility in times of crisis, and more. Prioritizing strong, long-term supplier relationships creates a foundation for mutual growth and success, reducing risks and fostering a more resilient, flexible, and ethical supply chain.

BAW Plastics Inc. has been thriving for over 40 years, proving that success doesn’t require being a large corporation. What truly makes the difference is a leader who prioritizes continuous improvement, values employees, and nurtures strong business relationships.
