History of National Good Neighbor Day
Becky Mattson’s Idea (1970s): Mattson, a real estate agent, became inspired by the increasing social isolation she observed, with technology leading to less interaction between neighbors. She was particularly motivated by her own elderly mother’s loneliness and wanted to make a difference for communities everywhere.
Formalization (1978): President Jimmy Carter’s 1978 proclamation established National Good Neighbor Day as a formal observance to emphasize mutual respect, concern for others, and building stronger, safer communities.
Date Change (2003): The date was moved to September 28th, and it is now widely recognized as the official date to celebrate.

In Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood, everyone looks out for one another. At BAW, we take the same approach with our partners, customers, and team — making sure we’re always there to help and make each day a win-win. In fact, for over a month from August through September, our entire crew worked long hours on a huge display project for one of our biggest clients in the retail industry. Office staff helped with bagging hardware kits, and both the woodshop and plastic production came together on cutting, smoothing out, and gluing the big pieces together to complete the project in time to display in stores around the country.
